Discipline versus punishment has different goals and different focuses for those on the giving end and results in different reflections for those on the receiving end!
The end results show me the greatest difference between consequences, which educate and support accountability; versus punishment that causes pain directly to the child for their decision.
Punishment does not support the learning of the lesson in a healthy manner.
I feel punishment attacks the child and not the issue.
Discipline focuses on restitution while punishment does not. I feel that discipline is a positive pro-active approach to the issue and punishment is reactive approach.
I believe that discipline offers solutions and hope and does not attack the child’s self-esteem whereas punishment does.
For love of a child,
Cindy
